Great, I'm quite willing to update the manual with more current
information when this happens.

As long as the C code is not shipped with IPython and the binaries are
readily available, no problem.

Obviously I can't make any kind of formal commitment, but I will
certainly be kicking the tires of the new codebase.

Porting over existing trunk code is something that I can see myself
doing, at least.

I don't see the current trunk going away any day soon, even if we some
day decide to call it "ready" :-)
