There appears to be a "python-setuptools" package in fedora extras,
which should provide easy_install. The package name is same for
debian/ubuntu.

If these don't work, there is always

http://peak.telecommunity.com/dist/ez_setup.py

which, when executed (as root), installs the latest setuptools.
