what version of pyreadline, ipython and python are you using?

You could try to use bzr to get the latest code from the 
lp:pyreadline/1.6 branch, I believe there are fixes in there that may be 
relevant to your problem.

I'm planning to get a new bugfix release out this week so any feedback 
on this problem would be appreciated.
