It is, although there's no harm in having it in text files too.
Specifically, we store raw and translated history for each cell run,
organised by session, and timestamps on the beginning and end of each
session.

There's a project up for grabs (http://wiki.ipython.org/Potential_projects)
to write a user interface to browse and export the history. If anyone's
interested, I can provide more information.
