This script is derived from one meant as a starting point for doctesting
notebooks (the original <https://gist.github.com/2620735>), and the
comparison functions were simply not removed.

The reason I started to write compare_png is that regenerated figures are
rarely perfectly identical, so I planned to do an "almost-equal" comparison
to check, lest little aberrations be considered a failure.
