I, too, am having this problem, both on a work machine (Linux) and my
laptop (OS-X). Both of these issues began when I pulled master for the git
repo last night.

Here's the result from the ipython notebook --debug

$ ipython notebook --profile=nbserver --debug
[NotebookApp] Config changed:
[NotebookApp] {'Application': {'log_level': 10}, 'BaseIPythonApplication':
{'profile': u'nbserver'}}
