There should be a PyCOnDemand where all the talks are streamed live! :) (Although I guess if it's live then it's not really "on demand" but it sounds good.)

Hi,

I am wondering what kinds of materials will be available in support of
the pycon 2012 presentation? I will not attend but would very much
like to have access to whatever materials were used in the
presentation. Sometimes stuff is made available after the meeting and
that can take a while to appear. I am just wondering what you guys
have planned for those unfortunate enough to not be able to attend?

Thanks.
Our plan is to mostly use the notebook (along with a few extra slides
at the start), and we'll put those notebooks in the main ipython doc
tree. So you need not worry, the bulk of the materials will be
available right away on github. Once we have the slides finished up,
we'll post them as usual in the presentations page as well as a PDF.
Knowing the typical pre-conference rush, I can bet money it will be
the day after we deliver :) The notebooks we'll simply push to the
git repo as usual, in the doc/ directory:
Absolutely, having a nice sharing facility would be awesome. I just
think our (very small) core team is currently swamped with building
the foundation to tackle this task.

As an interim solution, we could create a wiki page for 'community
notebooks' where people post a short description of a notebook as a
link to a gist. It's not ideal but it's fairly low overhead and can
be done *now* without needing extra infrastructure.

In the long run, we certainly do want to tackle this problem for real,
as we know it's very important and useful. But right now we have our
plate more than full with things that still need doing in the core of
the notebook and ipython itself.

If a one or more users want to tackle this as a project, by all means
let us know. We could hash out some ideas on the list, or jump on
skype for a conversation if needed.

Cheers,
I wonder if this could be done with scipy central
(http://scipy-central.org/ ; it seems to be down at the moment, but
you can see it in Google's cache).

I'm also hoping that PythonAnywhere will offer the IPython notebook
before long, which might be another way to go about this.
Good point, I'd forgotten about it (Thomas also mentioned it). I
certainly hope scipy-central will grow in use, so we might as well
encourage it by putting example notebooks there. And we could
collaborate with them to find nicer ways to display the uploaded
notebooks in the site, so users don't have to download and open the
notebooks locally before they can see any content. The scipy-central
team could be the manpower we need for this particular topic...

The main thing will be to implement a nice html converter, which we
need and have discussed a lot. It's a small, neat and self-contained
ipython project anyone can write. Once that tool is ready, the scipy
central site could render the uploaded notebooks on its pages
(statically) for users to see, offering the file download/clone links
as well.

Cheers,
