I'm still confused as to what the difference is. This (recent) 
convesation started with my desire for a mutable scalar. CAn array 
scalars fill this role?

What I mean by that role is some way to do:

x += 5 # (and friends)
x[()] = 45 # or some other notation


And have x be the same object throughout.

Heck even something like:

x.set(45)

would work for me.
