Did anybody mention Eclipse+pydev ? I've been a regular user for the last few 
months, and I'm quite happy about it. True, Eclipse can be a bit overkill, 
but it's quite performant. Actually, I use pydev for the development and an 
interactive shell like ipython for testing/playing around...
