 Ndimage poses a problem at the moment: it is not being maintained, and it
 is not easily maintainable.  Would it help if I adapted ndimage to work
 with ctypes?  That way, all the wrapping code can be pulled out, which
 will make the code a lot simpler.  Furthermore, this could solve the
 64-bit problem.
