 Ok, that's funny, since LAPACK was used for the compilation (you can see
 it since the show_config is the same than before), although doing
 LAPACK=None should have disabled it. So basically, it should not have
 changed anything... The fact that it worked tends to show that LAPACK
 itself is not the problem, though.

 LAPACK stands for Linear Algebra Package, and is a standard library
 written in fortran for basic linear algreba things, of which svd is one
 example. Many distributions (including Fedora up to 6 or 7) had buggy
 lapack for a long time, which is why I suspected lapack package first.

 So it would seem that the packaged numpy is the problem, for some reason.
 Which source did you use ? 1.0.4 or SVN ?
