 You are asking for something like the equal ufunc, but the ufuncs need a
 common type to compare, which is lacking between strings and numbers. The
 only easy way out that I can see is to fall back and compare types, which
 doesn't really need a ufunc, and generate an array of false. But it may
 not always be desireable to do that for arrays. What do you think?
