Comment:

 Same problem with inf BTW. This seems to happen in array_print, and is not
 consistent with the doc:

 nanstr : string, optional
     String representation of floating point not-a-number (default nan).
 infstr : string, optional
     String representation of floating point infinity (default inf).

 I think we should go toward the documented strings ('inf' and 'nan') as
 those are the ones used for python 2.6 and above, on all platforms.
