This sounds like one of those ATLAS/hardware/compiler incompatibility
thingees. IIRC, there was another report of a 1.0.4 failure involving
matrix multiplication on recent Intel, but I couldn't reproduce the
problem on my machine. Your example also runs fine here (1.0.5.dev4730)
Did you build numpy yourself? What did you use for ATLAS/BLAS?
P.S. This is the first time I recall seeing the ia64 here.
