 Platform-independent recognition of C99'ish inf+nan representations is
 implemented in r6318, r6319 in `fix_float_format` branch.

 I'd state that this bug (and #510) are now fixed in `fix_float_format`.
 The code could perhaps be cleaned up a bit, but otherwise it's done.
