Comment:

 Inconsistent, maybe, but it has always worked like this, and changing it
 now has backward compatibility concerns.

 The full data is of course in the array, the issue is what `__str__`,
 `__repr__` and scalar-producing indexing returns. `.tostring()` on the
 array or a 0-d sub-array returns the full data, though.

 It's probably best to raise the issue on the mailing list.
