 Thanks for the fix. I've moved institutions but I still have SSH access to
 the machine (I think), I'll give it a whirl tonight.

 As for ppc64 being a dead end, so is ppc as far as Snow Leopard is
 concerned, however I don't think that's a compelling reason for dropping
 support of either if it's possible to accommodate PPC users.

 I must apologize for my broken patch -- I thought I had done the due
 diligence testing against several different builds of Python, including
 those from python.org, though I should've had a closer look at what
 _can_target was doing.
