 It makes it easier to record the author of the patch. For instance, I
 don't have your email address and name. A pull request is easier for the
 maintainers and brings attention to the patch in a way that an attachment
 doesn't.

 I'll put it in as is if necessary, but it isn't the preferred way to go.
