Hi all,

there have been recent discussions on this list on this topic.  For those 
interested, this seems to be a good discussion with a reasonable amount of 
legal background:

I don't want to turn this into a debate, just to provide useful background 
info in case the issue comes up again (which unfortunately we all do face one 
way or another when free software begins to come close to the realm of 
proprietary stuff, be it IDL, Matlab, or anything else).
