[SciPy-dev] proposed patches: reviewers welcome

Hello SciPy Developers,

I recently submitted patches that, I hope, will help closing two opened 
tickets: the conversion of scalars using int() (#549, opened by myself), 
and... the notorious "agitation" around the "standard" standard 
deviation (#502 et al.).

Any reviews would be welcome.  If these could make it to the svn 
repository, I'd be more than happy :)

I've attached diff files to both tickets.
