 I just looked more closely at the cephes code and noticed the following
 comment:

 {{{ * Not suitable for large n or x. Use jv() instead. }}}

 But there is no characterization of "large n or x." I did try jv(...) on a
 few examples and indeed they all looked fine. Perhaps there can be a
 warning when jn(...) is outside its domain of validity (which we would
 need to determine), or optionally a fallback to jv(...) in those cases?
