 That patch was from a long time ago, and I haven't been keeping up on this
 particular topic...  Upon reflection I think an adequate quick fix would
 be to send the message to stderr.  That would at least give users options
 for redirection.  But a good standard logging facility for scipy would be
 a welcome addition, I agree!!
