 I can confirm the problem, using the same setup as Andrew, but versions
 r2878 of scipy and r3607 for numpy.  This was on PPC OSX, by the way.
 Here's what I actually got:

 On my Linux Ubuntu box, with identical versions of numpy/scipy, the entire
 test suite passes without any failures.
