 Unless there's a profound difference in efficiency, I'd favor a Python
 version also.  It appears that the author has MATLAB implementations
 available, so it should be fairly straightforward to implement.

 For comparison, I implemened a CG method in Python thats typically faster
 than the version in linalg.iterative .  I'd wager that using BLAS (as
 Stefan mentioned) should produce comparable performance to the Fortran
 version.
