 Well, I was originally going to change the type of n, but in many cases
 there are other function calls that are being given &n as a parameter, and
 they expect int*.  I can try to propagate the data type change to all
 those other functions, but I think some of them are calls to Fortran
 routines, and I have no idea how to change that at the moment (I can look
 into it, but I'm not sure right now when I'll have time).
