Comment:

 Destructive cancellation can occur in any precision. If you need double
 precision calculations, use double precision inputs. As a general
 principle, we try not to make implicit casts and trust that you are
 inputting the precision that you want the calculations done in.

 {{{x1.astype(float)}}} would be the correct call in numpy.
