 the sparse solver for linear systems of equations doesn't work for large
 dimensions.
 a short example:

 from numpy import ones

 from scipy.sparse.linalg import spsolve
 from scipy.sparse import spdiags

 N = 1000000

 L = spdiags([-ones(N),2*ones(N),-ones(N)], [-1,0,1], N, N, format='csc')

 b = ones(N)
 y1 = spsolve(L,b)
 print 1
