Yes, that needs a better explanation. I'll update the patch later
today/tonight.

What do you think about dropping the 'logarithmic' method entirely? I
agree with John (the creator of the ticket)--the formula is "incorrect" (a
subjective term, I know). I suspect the intent for that method was
actually what is now implemented as the 'geometric' method, but an
incorrect formula was used.
Unless it turns out that there is some common use for that particular
formula, I don't think there is any reason to keep it in chirp().
