 IIRC, there was a possible bug in the Park-McClellan Remez algorithm that
 could fail to find the extrema in some cases, it also just looks for the
 nearest local extrema to the previous ones and doesn't necessarily find
 *the* extrema. But as you say, insufficient grid density is probably the
 core of the problem. I have a generalized version of the Remez algorithm
 in cython sitting around that also designs Hermitean complex filters, I'll
 try it out on your problem this weekend and see how it goes.
