Comment:

 I'm sure you can find many functions that don't take empty arrays.
 Besides, the number of data points needs to be larger than the number of
 knots (noting that in the docs) so
 {{{
 sp.interpolate.UnivariateSpline([0, 1, 2], [2, 4, 6])
 }}}
 also fails.
