#1205: Converting PIL image to Scipy crashes Python
------------------------+---------------------------------------------------

     Type:  defect      |      Status:  new
 Priority:  normal      |   Milestone:  0.8.0

Comment(by jpa):

 I tried this with 64 bit Kubuntu with PIL 1.1.7. It crashes too.

 There are two different kinds of 1-bit B&W PNG images. The first one is an
 indexed image with two defined colors, black and white. The other type is
 a grayscale image with depth of one. The crashing image is of the latter
 type, but at least the Gimp only creates images of the former type, and
 those work flawlessly.

 Since most 1-bit images (at least in scientific/commercial settings) are
 TIFFs, it may be that this image is triggering an unused code path in
 scipy, PIL, or possibly both.
