Comment:

 The hermitian cases in the `eigs` tests end up calling GMRES, as it's not
 possible to check if a given LinearOperator is Hermitian, so it's probably
 a case.

 The breakpoint seems to trigger in some strange point inside the dynamic
 loader. This may be because of having no debug information -- maybe
 compiling with `FOPT="-g3 -O3"` helps?

 Also, did you try linking against the reference BLAS (netlib.org/blas)?
 I'm not sure how much sense checking this makes, though, as it seems
 unlikely Atlas is at fault here.
