 Thinking about it, I don't see much sense in calling fit_loc_scale for the
 starting parameters if there are any shape parameters. The shape parameter
 is arbitrarily set to one, and having loc and scale match an arbitrary
 shape (or shapes) doesn't look very useful. It would be useful if there
 were a good initial guess on the shape parameter(s).

 But I didn't run any simulations or timings to see for which distributions
 it might help.
