For problems in computational combustion, DASSL, DASPK, and CVODE are
considered the "gold standards" in numerical integration, with DVODE
(already implemented in scipy.integrate) not far behind. It would be
helpful when doing open source computational science research in Python to
wrap these two integrators, as well as the Sundials suite, in scipy in
order to make it even easier for people to port their codes from Fortran
or C to Python. (This situation is the motivation for my ticket.)

Wrappers for DASPK version 2 (which is public domain) and CVODE version
2.6 (which is BSD-licensed and part of Sundials 2.4.0) are already in
scikits.odes. I'd like to see these merged into scipy.integrate as part of
the scipy.integrate.ode class (or however you guys choose to redesign it).
I'd also like to see the CVODE wrapper updated to interface with CVODE
version 2.7 (part of Sundials 2.5.0, which contains many bug fixes). There
is significant demand on the Sundials-users mailing list for a good, well-
maintained and supported Python interface to Sundials with a reputable
institution behind it; many lower quality third-party interfaces are
 available.
