 Ok, looks good. The loss of precision in (ii) was apparently also removed
 by using different branches for x >= 0 and x < 0 --- you get it if using
 the x >= 0 branch for negative x.

 The overflows that the termination condition changes occurred for instance
 for z = 1e200+1e200j, but are not there in the present version as the
 algorithm is not used for those parts. The reason for not reporting it was
 that I noticed a new version of the code, and wanted to test that first :)

 I'm not aware of further issues at the moment.
