Comment:

 It's documented as returning int, but I can't reproduce that:

 In [15]: def f(x): return x**2 + 0.9*x - 0.333

 In [16]: x0, fval, grid, Jout = optimize.brute(f, ((-3,3),),
 full_output=True)

 In [17]: x0
 Out[17]: array([-0.45])

 In [18]: fval
 Out[18]: -0.53550000000000009
 }}}

 This is with current master. Do you get something different? If so, can
 you provide a self-contained example.
