 Thanks, I think I understand now. It has created a (3,) array of (3,3)
 arrays, and (3,3) array + scalar is not generally desired. So the issue is
 to avoid creating those (3,)-(3,3) arrays by not using numpy.dot(), but
 I'm not sure if it's a real bug, or just a matter of the user calling the
 wrong function and a (clearer?) warning message to the user should be
 displayed. I'll leave this for others to decide.

 By the way, I'm just being lazy and using SciPy from the quantal
 repository.
