This is strange. Does:

 >> from numpy.random import normal

fails ? If you use ipython, you can use:

 >> help numpy.random

To get a list of all the function exporteed by numpy.random. Otherwise, 
with a standard python shell, you can use

 >> print dir(numpy.random)

In both cases, you should see normal as a function.
