loadtxt(fname, dtype=<type 'float'>, comments='#', 
delimiter=None, converters=None, skiprows=0, usecols=None, 
unpack=False)

Can I use more than one character to filter out comment 
lines starting with "!" or "$" ?

e.g. comments='!$'
