[SciPy-user] extracting z, v from a 3D array

In a 3D array, each cell [i, j, k] has a value v which is the value at
the point x=i*dx, y=j*dy, z=k*dz.
How can I extract, "efficiently" (fast and memory resource) the 2D array
(v, z), ie z vs. v ?
"fast and memory resource" means "in acceptable time": for instance, I
compute an histogram using scipy.histogram for a 800x850x900 cells float
array in 3 mn.
