[SciPy-User] scipy.optimize on a physical model

I am working with a non-sequential optical ray-tracing program written
in python. I would like to maximize the concentration ratio and
optical efficiency of a model defined by several variables (one to
dozens). Is it possible that code already written in scipy could do
this? Specifically, I was looking at optimize.anneal. Are there
scikits that might be more appropriate?

Depending on the detail of the trace (the number of rays involved), it
could take between .1 seconds and 10 seconds to evaluate the model, so
the fewer function calls the better.

thanks for reading,
elliot
