[IPython-user] [Fwd: readline still fails on Win2K]

I'm forwarding your email to the ipython-user list, as perhaps other Windows
users have wisdom they can contribute. I have had reports of things working
well for windows users, so I'm not sure what the problem for you may be.

I've copied below the sequence of messages you sent, in order to have all the
information handy. Two questions:

1. Which ipython version are you using? You copied your banner _except_ for
that line, which is the most important one :)

2. Just to confirm, you are using UNC readline and not the newcentury one, right?

With current ipython, ctypes 0.9.1 (NOT 0.9.0) and UNC readline, it should
work out of the box (and windows users _have_ confirmed this).

Hi Fernando,

I installed the new readline and ctypes modules but readline still does not
work. All of the readline key bindings, starting with TAB, just beep and do

In addition - if you have the Ipython window background set to anything but
black, you see that every line is colored with black out to the line width
of the window.

My startup-banner is shown below.

Any ideas or ideas where I can go to figure out what is going on?

############## Message 2
If I try to use autoindent I get a traceback that ends with the following

"InteractiveShell instance has no attribute 'has_readline' "

So is readline not loading? How can I tell? How can I force it to load?

############## Message 3
So I guess I did not have the flag set. Now that it is set I do not get
the autoindent error or beep when I TAB. On the other hand I do not get
any sort of completion or autoindent either - even though the magic command
registers as I turn it off or on.

In other words - the readline function is just silent.

############## Message 4
So the history functions seem to work well but nothing works on the
autoindent and command completion functions ---- just silence.
