keep in mind that in 
ndimage the emphasis in more on the *nd* part than in the *image* part.
Meaning ndimage is (so far) concerned about any-dimensional "image"-algorithms 
-- like segmentation or nd-erosion and so on.
It is not at all about reading jpg-files.
