I have the same problem...
I am on a Pentium 4, Ubuntu 7.04, gcc 4.1.2
I had it initially with an svn build from a few months, which I built with
standard ubuntu g77 and ubuntu atlas (atlas-sse2-dev).
I just rebuilt with gfortran, Atlas 3.7.37, lapack 3.1.1 and the current
SVN (3383) and it is the same problem.
scipy.test(10,1) fails:
