gcc 3.3.2 will be released Oct 1, I hope it will fix the problem.

It is in the CVS repository already;) Here is a quicker way to
test the general_function issue (rather than rebuilding scipy) with
different compilers:

  cd scipy/Lib/special
  rm -rf build
  python setup_special.py build
  python tests/test_basic.py
