[SciPy-user] [ Python(x, y) ] New release : 1.2.1 - Critical bug fix
Thu May 29 04:12:36 CDT 2008
Sorry to be unclear, I really meant to say:
- first ask the user what the BaseDir for the install is,
- then default each individual package's install-dir to <BaseDir>/<Package>,
but also let them override that on a per-package basis.

Also, I think you are still defaulting some paths (e.g. MingW)to be under C:\Program Files\ which as I mentioned is a huge bigproblem with Windows Vista's UAC, especially when you install asAdministrator then try to run it as a user - it triggers loads ofUAC nag warnings anytime you do file operations. May I suggest it is best to prompt the user for the base directoryof the entire install (e.g. "C:\DEV") then after that, automatically default all the paths to e.g. C:\DEV\<Package>
I think that is a good compromise indeed, and I will update the installer shortly.
BTW, I will probably include the new NumPy release (1.1.0)... unless I wait for the forthcoming IPython 0.8.3 and matplotlib 0.91.3 which should be available in a few days.
Thanks for the lightning turnaround on patches, by the way.I am happily running with 1.2.0
