[SciPy-User] Saving multidimensional matlab arrays

I need to save some 3d (i, j, k) arrays in matlab format. I have used
savemat(filename, {'var_name':var}), and they work fine. However, when I
load them up either in Matlab or in scipy, the arrays are (i*j, k). I can
quickly unwrap them into 3d arrays as I know what i and j are, but I was
wondering whether I'm missing something on the savemat that forces the "real
arrays" to be saved?
